- Second, we have a few additional articles about online learning that we’d like you to review for the meeting. As you may or may not have heard online learning has been all the rage these last few months. In particular the idea of Massive Open Online Courses (a.k.a. MOOCs). Below we have linked to a few readings on the topic. The first is an overview of online pedagogies over the last three decades to provide an overview for anyone who is interested: http://www.irrodl.org/index.php/irrodl/article/view/890
- In terms of MOOCs, this journal article traces the recent exploration of the MOOC and its various manifestations: http://www.eurodl.org/?article=516
- Additionally, this short blog post by Bon Stewart frames the thinking behind cMOOCs and xMOOCs in an Inside Higher Ed article:http://www.insidehighered.com/blogs/university-venus/slouching-towards-bethlehem-unpacking-mooc-buzzword#ixzz27Ug956xo
- And finally, this short piece on the implications of the Cal State system outsourcing its online education to Pearson—one of the dangers of the vision at the heart of outsourcing online education. Bottom line, is higher ed outsourcing expertise, and by extension its very raison d’être.http://www.tonybates.ca/2012/08/22/california-state-university-partners-with-pearson-for-system-wide-online-program/
